Civil Rights & Liberties

Protecting freedom, dignity, and equal rights under the law for every American.

Civil Rights & Liberties

Freedom means nothing without dignity. And dignity means nothing without protection. We believe civil rights are not partisan — they are the operating system of a just society. Halcyon’s approach centers on restoring trust, ensuring fairness, and rejecting the false binary between liberty and equality.

True liberty isn’t just the absence of interference — it’s the presence of protection. The Halcyon Party stands for a civil society where rights are real, not rhetorical — and where dignity is nonnegotiable.

Religious Liberty

Freedom of religion must include freedom from coercion.

We affirm:

  • Full protection of religious exercise, including for minority faiths and secular beliefs.

  • No government endorsement of any religion — including in school curriculums, legislation, or public funding.

  • Religious exemptions only where they do not infringe on the rights and dignity of others.

Voting Rights & Access

The right to vote is sacred — and currently under siege.

We support:

  • Automatic voter registration for all eligible citizens.

  • National vote-by-mail access, with secure ballot tracking and verification.

  • Election Day as a federal holiday to increase turnout and access.

  • Independent election oversight commissions to prevent partisan interference.

LGBTQ+ Equality

You don’t need to agree with someone’s identity to support their rights.

We advocate for:

  • Federal nondiscrimination protections in housing, employment, healthcare, and education.

  • Protection of gender-affirming care for adults, with child care policies based on consensus medical guidance.

  • Religious freedom and LGBTQ+ rights as coexisting principles — not opposing forces.

Criminal Justice Reform

Justice should be blind, not biased.

We propose:

  • National standards for policing, including de-escalation training and independent review boards.

  • Elimination of qualified immunity for public officials who violate civil rights.

  • Cash bail reform, ending detention for poverty.

  • Record expungement for nonviolent drug offenses and outdated moral crimes.

Free Speech & Digital Rights

The answer to bad speech is better ideas — not more censorship.

We support:

  • Strong First Amendment protections, including for unpopular political views.

  • Transparency requirements for major platforms on moderation policies and algorithmic curation.

  • Digital due process laws, ensuring users can challenge bans, flags, or de-platforming actions.

Equal Protection Under the Law

Your rights shouldn’t depend on your ZIP code.

We call for:

  • Federal civil rights enforcement to address discriminatory state-level laws.

  • Protections against algorithmic discrimination in AI, employment, lending, and policing tech.

  • Universal access to legal representation in civil cases involving housing, healthcare, or family rights.

Mental Health as a Civil Rights Issue

Liberty includes the right to live with dignity.

We support:

  • Community-based treatment alternatives to incarceration for mental health and addiction issues.

  • Mental health parity laws that treat brain health like physical health in all insurance policies.

  • Crisis response teams that don’t rely solely on armed police.

Bodily Autonomy

If it’s your body, it’s your decision.

We support:

  • Codifying reproductive freedom at the federal level, protecting access to contraception and abortion.

  • Medical privacy protections that prevent state surveillance of personal health decisions.

  • Science-based public health mandates that balance individual liberty with public safety, always with clear sunset clauses and review.
